HS Benefit #5: Quirky, fun field trips whenever you want!
Do you know where the Geographical Center of North America is? My kids do, now!
Today we went on a field trip with approximately 15 or so other homeschool families to Rugby, ND.
Rugby, ND is the Geographical Center of North America. And in Rugby, there is a Prairie Village of old-time buildings FULL of all kinds of things! There was a saloon, two school houses, outhouses, a dress shop, an old dentist's office, a barn full of old farm equipment, another barn full of old cars, etc...
It was a fun outing for the kids and it was a great opportunity to meet some new friends here. The drive was 160 miles round trip, but it was worth it. These are the opportunities we don't want to miss since fun, quirky field trips to out-of-the-way locations are one of the perks of homeschooling.

We had art on the way there and reading on the way home. Another field trip was a great way to get us back into school-mode!

Fun field trip! It looks like your homeschool group is a pretty good size. :o)
I love the label you used, "Recess for ages 1-15". Matthew and Christopher are practically inseperable but the neighbor kids and parents think that can only play with one or the other because they are so used to having the same exact aged kids as their friends at school. I have to tell them that the boys HAVE to stay together when they play away from home so that one doesn't get excluded. (Not that I think they MUST always play together, but that's what they want for now and it's safer anyways.) We went to the beach yesterday with a homeschool group and all the boys, about ages 5 to 10, played together without thinking anyone was too young or old to be included. Loved it! (And another benefit of homeschooling...less age discrimination among the kiddos).
